Venice of the West Watertaxi Leiden – Katwijk v.v.

About

Starting Sunday the 2nd of June until Sunday the 15th of September 2019 every Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday you can join us on a surprising boat trip along the ‘Oude Rijn’ going from Leiden to Katwijk and back. We will pass the Limes, the natural border of the Roman Empire, and will then continue our journey through Oegstgeest, Valkenburg and Rijnsburg. After about 90 minutes we will dock at the busy harbor of Katwijk. To enjoy the sun or just go for a fresh breeze of air at the beach, you can go on a five minute walk from the docking place to the boulevard of Katwijk. Behind the dunes you’ll find a shopping mall and a museum dedicated to the history of the Netherlands in general and specifically the history of Katwijk, a former fishers village, “Het Katwijks Museum”. Departing form Katwijk, you will go on a boat trip to the old city of Leiden. Throughout the ‘City of Discoveries’ you will find lots of beautiful places to wander around, as well as museums and other historical places to visit. Along the picturesque canals and the green fringed moats of 'Old Leyden' there are a lot of restaurants and coffee places to sit down at and enjoy the view. Every Wednesday there’s a market along the ‘Nieuwe Rijn’. The ‘Venice of the West’ shuttle service is operated by Stichting De Leidse Rederij, Rondvaart Leiden and Bob on board
